In-House Laboratory Services

At Sore Paws, our clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art in-house laboratory technology, allowing us to perform routine and emergency testing as needed. This enables us to quickly diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions, ensuring fast and effective treatment for your pet.

Comprehensive Blood Testing

We use haematology and biochemistry analysers to assess:

  • Blood counts to detect anaemia and infections
  • Organ function (liver, kidney, and glucose levels)
  • Electrolyte balances to assess hydration status
  • Clotting issues and protein levels

These tests are essential for pre-anaesthetic blood screening, general health monitoring, and diagnosing various conditions. We also offer more specialised blood tests, including:

  • APTT & PT clotting times
  • SDMA (early kidney function testing)
  • T4 and TSH (thyroid function tests)
  • Phenobarbital level checks (for pets on seizure medication)
  • Fructosamine testing (to monitor diabetes)

Urinalysis and Microscopy

Our in-house urinalysis analysers help detect:

  • Kidney disease and infections
  • Urinary crystals and bladder stones
  • pH imbalances, blood, and bacteria

We also use microscopy to examine various samples, including:

  • Lump aspiration samples
  • Ear swabs
  • Urine and faeces
  • Hair and skin samples

This technology allows us to quickly diagnose infections, parasites, and other health concerns without the need for external testing.

Testing at Home & External Lab Services

Many of these tests can also be performed at your home as part of our Sore Paws Home Care Service.

For more complex cases, we have access to an external laboratory. If samples need to be sent for further analysis, they are usually collected the same day via courier.
